Seagrass Monitoring

CLP Nature Action volunteers continue our citizen science project monitoring of our local seagrass meadows at Limekilns.

Our seagrass is the dwarf eel grass – Zostera :??? Seagrass beds are internationally important coastal ecosystems and it is great to have the opportunity to look after our beds in collaboration with Restoration Forth.

three transect quadrat surveys completed across the western bed, recording density and height of seagrass, sediment type and the biodiversity living within the beds. Mapping of the beds took place last year and the transect and mapping work will be repeated in the future to help us understand the ecology of our local beds, how they change over time, and how we can work to enhance them.
